For many fittings, electrical modifications are NOT required. However, for most LED fitting designed to replace fluorescent tubes, re-wiring of the fitting is required. There are some inferior LED tubes that do not require rewiring. These tubes use more energy than necessary and produce more heat than a fluorescent tube (you are combining the heat of the LED with the heat of the fluorescent ballast).
